In 2017, we set out on the adventure of our lives, to pursue a collective passion in making the world a better place through education. After two years of planning, learning, and reflection, we established Cedar Academy.

 

Our vision is to create an educational experience of infinite possibilities for children – where they can learn with passion and joy, excel intellectually and morally, form meaningful relationships with one another, and grow in fortitude, integrity and purpose.

We created the Cedar Holistic Education Curriculum (CHEC), a comprehensive research-based learning framework that draws on our own educational experiences inside and outside the classroom in Hong Kong, the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as various established learning methods. The CHEC is specifically developed with young children in mind, and integrates the humanities, STEM, performing arts, and character development fields.

 

Our education philosophy rests on three core principles:

 

1. We do not hold children to conventional definitions of success. We are not here simply to get children onto a single “right” track, or help them get the best grades. We have no secret formula – nor do we believe in one. Rather, we believe that every child has a unique gift and talent – waiting to be discovered, nurtured, and shared. Our responsibility is to work together with parents, guardians, and the children themselves to let them shine in their own brightest possible way.

2. We are focused on the long game, not short-term wins. Our mission is to help them develop the strongest foundations possible –  for the skills they need to pursue their dreams and build the life they seek in a rapidly changing and increasingly inter-connected world.

3. As responsible educators and adults, we carry a moral obligation to be role models and inspirations for children in learning and living – especially at an early age. We value intellectual curiosity, creativity, and passion as much as courage, compassion, and gratitude. Our teachers, curriculum, and learning are fully aligned to achieve our educational mission.
